Mezzo: Huiling Zhu

 
 

T'he Shanghai-born mezzo-soprano, graduated from theHigh School affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory ofMusic, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, andMusikhochschule Stuttgart, where she made her Bachelor,Master and Soloist (Doctor) degrees of Lieder and Opera.

She made her operatic debut in Offenbach’s “aPerichole”in Graz (Austria)in 2003. Her repertoiresinclude "Carmen", "Werther", "Cosi fan Tutte", "Barbe-Bleue", "Rheingold", "The Wilderness"etc., as well as theoperettas, in different opera houses such as in Stuttgart,Zürich and Hyogo etc.

In 2013, Huiling Zhu made her opera China debut in NCPAwith “Les Contes d’ Hoffmann”.As an opera singer.she’s invited by different orchestras and opera houses inChina, such as NCPA, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra,China Central Opera House, singing "Andrea Chénier'(Bersi), "Tannhäuser" (Venus), ",’Heure Fspagnole", "Carmen", etc.

Under the direction of Yu Long, Li ia, Zhang Guoyong, Tang Muhai, Yu Feng, Zhang Yi, Zhang Jiemin.I in Daye, Lüi Shao-Chia, Manfred Honeck and etc., she collaborated with China Symphony OrchestraChina Philharmonic Orchestra, China NCPA Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, HangzhouPhilharmonic Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, ChinaNational Ballet Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Guiyang Symphony Orchestra,Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra and etc. to perform Mahler's No. 2, No. 3and No. 8 Symphony, "Das Iied von der Erde" and "Des Knaben Wunderhorn", Verdi’s “Requiemdi Messa” , Schubert’s Rosamunde, the world premiere of Ye Xiaogang's Symphony No. 4 “Songsfrom the Steppe” , Symphony No. 5 “Lu Xun”, Symphony Hidden Tapestries-Myths of Creation andOde to the Hero for voice and orchestra and etc. In 2018 Huiling Zhu joined the world premiere of'TanDun's "Buddha Passion" with Munich Philharmonic, in LA (Gustavo Dudamel) and toured in Melbourneand Hong Kong. From 2017, she was invited to participate in the Gala concerts tour of “World Human Rights Day" and the "Silk Road" organized by the United Nations in Geneva Switzerland and othercountries. In 2021, she made her lieder recital debut in China with pianist Xue Yingjia which received greatreviews from critics and audiences. In 2022, under the baton ofYu Long she sang Wagner’s WesendonckLieder on Guangzhou Symphony’s Season Closing Concert, and Shanghai MISA Festival OpeningConcert under Zhang Lu.

T'he highlights of 2022/23 season include: Domestically, to collaborate with Shenzhen Symphony fordifferent repertoire as their 2022/23 season Artist in Residence, to sing Mahler's Das Lied von der Erdein Shenzhen Symphony's season opening concert under Lin Daye and Qingdao Symphony season concertunder Zhang Guoyong, in Feb. 2023, to sing Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder with Shenzhen Symphony,under the baton of Yu Long, in Apr., to perform Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with Shanghai Symphonyunder the baton of Yu Long, in Jun., to collaborate with Suzhou Symphony to perform Mahler's No. 3Symphony; during this season, she continues her lieder recital tour in China, with pianists Xue Yingiia andLi ]ian. On the international stage, she will collaborate with Soprano Fatma Said and Pretty Yende toperform opera gala concert in Geneva, under conductor Pablo Mielgo; she will perform 'Tan Dun's"Buddha Passion" in concerts with London Symphony, and in Elbphilharmonie and CAFe BudapestContemporary Art Festival, all under the baton of Tan Dun.

Besides singing, Huiling Zhu is also the art director of the charity association Siftung ChinesischeNachwuchskinstler in Germany, the judge of the 'Timmendorf Music Competition in Germany, and thejudge of the Chinese Music Golden Bell Awards 2019. Since August 2021, Huiling Zhu joins the facultyof Shenzhen Conservatory of Music as Professor, while serves as the Distinguished Visiting Professor ofCollege of Arts & Media, Tongji University.
